When you connect one of our 100 litre Grundfos pressure tanks into the house pumping system, the pressure tank provides around 35 litres of water before the pump needs to start and that reduces the overall number of pump starts tremendously. The pressure tank supplies the water for 5-6 toilet flushes or around 35 hand washes or 110 glasses of water without the pump needing to start, that of course extends the life of the pump and reduces the electricity used. The installation of a pressure tank is critical if your pump is supplying water to an evaporative cooler on the roof, a fridge with an ice making capability or, any other fixture that has a very low volume demand such as some filters or reverse osmosis units.
If you think about it, a house with 2 adults and 2 or 3 teenage children really does use a lot of water and the pump turns on every time you flush a toilet, turn on a tap, use the dishwasher or even turn on the shower or use the washing machine. In fact, the list below is probably the average in most households.

The first 5 items in that list are all low volumes of water per time, 30 x toilet flushes alone of usually 6 litres but the pump still start 30 times. If you install a 100 litre steel pressure tank, the tank can provide all of that flushing water with only 3 - 4 starts. 30 starts x 365 days without a tank = 10,950 starts per year or, 4 starts with a tank x 365 days = 1,460 starts per year. In fact, if you add the hand washes, teeth brushing an everything else on the list, without a pressure tank the number of pump starts in just 1 year is around 36,135. When you add a 100 litre pressure tank, the number of pump starts per year is reduced to around 7,665 and that is a massive saving in pump starts, a saving in electricity and, an extension of the pump working life.
